1. Minor Scratch Repair
Toothpaste/Polishing Paste Method: Suitable for shallow scratches where the primer is not exposed. It is low-cost and easy to use. The abrasive particles in toothpaste can reduce the scratches. Rub with a soft cloth in one direction for 1-2 minutes for effective results.
Professional Polishing Compound: More effective than toothpaste. Use a #1200 grit fine sandpaper and metal polishing paste for one-way polishing. Suitable for repairing non-working surfaces.
2. Moderate Scratch Repair
Brush Plating: Fills the scratches through localized electrodeposition. Polishing is required after the repair. The advantages are that it does not require part disassembly, is fast, and provides strong adhesion (suitable for precision components such as hydraulic rods).
Chemical Polishing: Uses a chromic acid solution or specialized repair agent to smooth the surface through a chemical reaction. However, the time required should be controlled to prevent excessive corrosion. 3. Severe Scratches Repair
Full Replating: This requires polishing the substrate and then replating. This is more expensive but offers the longest-lasting results (hard chrome deposits ≥ 20μm can last 5-10 years).
Vacuum Plating: Suitable for pure chrome-plated materials, it can repair dents and cracks, but requires specialized equipment and strict requirements for the substrate.
4. Special Scenarios
Industrial Equipment: Brush plating or full replating is preferred to ensure wear resistance and sealing.
Decorative Chrome Plating: Toothpaste or repair paint can meet aesthetic requirements at a lower cost.
