1. Basic Life Range
Unheat-treated 45# steel shaft: Under normal use, the lifespan is approximately 3-5 years, but it is prone to failure due to deformation or wear.
Quenching and tempering (quenching + tempering): The lifespan can be increased to 8-12 years, with significantly enhanced fatigue resistance.
Surface high-frequency hardening: The lifespan of key stress-bearing areas can exceed 15 years.
2. Impact of the Chrome Plating Layer
Chrome plating process: The chromium layer formed by electroplating (such as engineering chrome plating) is typically 5-250μm thick and significantly improves wear and corrosion resistance. However, excessive thickness (>250μm) may affect fatigue performance.
Chrome rod maintenance: Regular cleaning and avoiding chemical corrosion and mechanical abrasion can extend the lifespan. For example, use a neutral detergent for cleaning and avoid contact with strong acids and alkalis. 3. Environment and Usage Conditions
Corrosive Environments: In humid environments, areas subject to acid rain, or industrial pollution, the chrome plating may suffer from pitting corrosion, shortening its lifespan. Therefore, enhanced protection (such as regular waxing) is necessary.
High-Load Environments: Chrome-plated rods subjected to heavy loads or friction for extended periods (such as mold parts) should have their plating inspected every 2,000 strokes and polished and repaired as necessary.
4. Maintenance Recommendations
Cleaning: Use a soft cloth and a dedicated chrome cleaner to avoid scratching.
Rust Prevention: In humid environments, apply industrial petroleum jelly or chrome protectant.
Repair: If the plating is peeling in a small area, polish the transition area with a fine oilstone to prevent spread.
